Carlos Miguel Hernandez, 44, passed away on January 12, 2024, in Barcelona after a courageous battle with cancer. Carlos was a talented architect whose modernist designs transformed Barcelona's urban landscape while respecting its Gaudí-inspired heritage. Born in Seville, he moved to Barcelona to study architecture and fell in love with the city's unique blend of Gothic and Modernist styles. After founding Hernandez Arquitectura in 2008, Carlos completed numerous acclaimed projects, including the sustainable housing complex 'Jardines del Mediterráneo' and the renovation of the historic Mercat de Sant Antoni. His work was celebrated for its innovative use of light, space, and sustainable materials, earning him the Spanish Architecture Prize in 2019. Carlos is survived by his wife Elena, their two young children Mateo and Sofia, and his parents in Seville. Despite his illness, he continued to sketch designs from his hospital bed, telling his family: 'Architecture is my way of leaving beauty in the world for future generations.' His buildings stand as permanent testaments to his vision, creativity, and love for Barcelona.
